A message from the Second Master
Dear Parents,
After a busy term and year, we look forward to taking some time to celebrate the boys' many highlights and achievements via a recorded video message, which will be shared with you on Friday.
We will also share a presentation that will list the award winners from the term.
In the meantime, we hope that the boys all enjoy these last few days of Cloister Time 2021.
With best wishes,
Chess at Winchester
Baxter Pot is the school's annual inter-house chess tournament and this year's competition took place earlier this month.
There were strong performances from Seb Rumfitt (Toye's), Andrei But-Gusaim (Cook's), Andrew Heywood (Kenny's) and Robert Butenko (Kenny's).
College won the trophy after beating Cook’s 3.5-0.5 in the final, reclaiming it from last year's winners, Chawker’s.
The winning College team included Edison Xu, Ivan Shatrov, Agastya Nashier and Peiyan Han.
Congratulations to College!
The working world has experienced unprecedented and accelerated change in the past year. Boys have been given the opportunity to think about how the changes affect their decisions about their futures, as well as the chance to listen to and ask questions of visiting speakers from a wide range of sectors. We have had boys participating in practice interviews and taking part in workshops.
We would love to hear from members of the WinColl community who would like to take part in our online panels next year. Please get in touch via careers@Wincoll.ac.uk.
This year's Interhouse Clay Pigeon Shooting competition took place on 22 June with some excellent performances from the 33 boys who took part.
Furley’s 1 – Frankie Shropshire and Archie Sillars both shot superbly to score 50/60 to comfortably take the Goaman pot. Second were Hopper’s 1 – Hugo Barnes and Zong Yang with 44/60. Third were Chawker’s - Jaydn Lu and Aidan Zilkha on 42/60. Cooke’s and Freddies also put in a creditable performance only 1 or 2 targets behind the top 3.
The Chute cup was fought hard for with a few top scores very close. Archie Sillars (Furley’s) and Jaydn Lu (Chawkers) both scored 26/30 in the competition so had a sudden death shoot-off for first place. Both boys scored exactly the same for 4 pairs of clays then Archie killed his 5th pair and Jaydn missed one and killed one making Archie the winner. Very close after these two were Rigby Swarovski-Adams (Phil’s) who was last year’s winner with 25/30 and then Frankie Shropshire (Furley’s), Hugo Barnes (Hopper’s), James Fairly (Furley’s), Maxim Koval (Freddie’s) and Will Kimberley (Toye’s) who all scored 24/30.

1922 Society
On Thursday the 1922 Society will host Sir Iain Duncan Smith, speaking live from his constituency, regarding Sino-British relations and the best course British foreign policy may take towards the power.
Sir Iain acted as Leader of the Opposition (2001 – 2003) and has become one of the leading critics of the People’s Republic of China. In 2020 he launched the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, a group that seeks to lead a “coordinated response from democratic states to challenges posed by the present conduct and future ambitions of the People’s Republic of China.” He has since been sanctioned and banned by the regime from entering the country, stating that he wears this as a “badge of honour”.
Sir Iain will speak on his experiences as party leader, his core values and his reasoning for this stance on China, and how the crisis would be resolved before moving to a Q&A

The 2021 Telephone Campaign will run 5-19 July. 2,500 OWs and parents will receive a postcard from the Headmaster inviting them to be part of this year's campaign.
Since 2009 we have raised over £2.1m through our telephone campaigns. This year we have 13 young OW callers who will be speaking to our community about recent news from the school, upcoming events and fundraising towards bursaries.
We hope that those of you who receive a call enjoy the opportunity to hear from a young OW.
