Winchester College was founded in 1382 and is a boarding school for pupils aged 13 - 18, with a co-ed Sixth Form that also offers day places. Rich in ancient heritage, and set in a beautiful and historic city on the edge of a National Park, it has the longest continuous history of any English school.

The school is a large community with more than 500 employees teaching and caring for up to 700 pupils - 24 hours a day, seven days a week during term time.

Academic staff

Those who relish the opportunity to work with able and articulate pupils will find enjoyment and fulfilment at Winchester College.

All of our full-time teachers are highly qualified in their own subject discipline, they are also invited to take Div classes and be a house tutor in one of the eleven boarding houses. In addition, successful applicants will be expected to contribute to the extra-curricular and/or sporting activities of the school.

Support Staff

A diverse range of more than 400 staff ensure the school operates smoothly at all times. Our catering team cooks more than 2,500 meals each day, our IT department maintains over 1,000 devices and our grounds and gardening team are responsible for 60 acres of sports grounds, 20 acres of formal gardens and 11 boarding house gardens.  

From classrooms, chapels and cloisters to science laboratories and boarding houses, the works department are responsible for maintaining and sensitively improving the range of buildings owned by the school. In addition, the school operates its own Laundry, Sports Centre and Medical Centre and employs a diverse range of professional and administrative staff across the various support departments.  

Our support staff enjoy a rewarding career as part of a large team, and have outstanding opportunities for professional development, both within existing roles, and by internal promotion, through in-house training and apprenticeships.
