Events
We have been alerted to phishing scams, targeting the OW community, about bogus fundraising projects and payments for school fees. Winchester College will never contact you about fundraising except from a Win Coll email address (i.e. @wincoll.ac.uk).
If you have suspicions about a fundraising email involving the College, it is always better to check with us first.
To help prevent scams like this, our IT team actively work to acquire all similar internet domains which could be misused in this way, whenever they become available.
As we approach the end of term, we understand that parents may wish to show their gratitude to staff through thank you gifts.
From the school’s perspective, we would like to emphasise that there is no obligation or expectation of gifts in any circumstances. If you are organising a collection for a joint gift, please be mindful that parents have a wide range of financial circumstances and not everyone will be able to afford to participate or wish to contribute.
Please also note that our internal policies do not permit staff to accept gifts of cash or vouchers of any amount and staff will donate these to the College or the College’s nominated charity.
Events
Thank you to everyone that attended Wykeham Day on Saturday. Aided by the gorgeous weather, the day was a resounding success.
Please enjoy this selection of photos from the day.
The full gallery is available on the College's photography platform. Photos were taken by Camilla Winter-Moore and Jim Pascoe and contact details for both are listed in their respective albums.
Charities
On Wykeham Day, over 200 pupils, staff and parents participated in the Solar Cycle charity event in support of SolarAid., giving their best 20-60 minutes each on stationary bikes. Thanks to their efforts, we were able to smash the target distance of 2200km and cycle 2400km in total.
The best house was Toye's, managing to cycle non-stop for an impressive 234km under 8 hours at an average speed of 30km/h.
Thank you to all who took part and all who have donated thus far; £2,990 of the £6,000 target has been reached. Donations are still open, and reaching the £6,000 mark would allow SolarAid to distribute an additional 200 solar lamps to schools, health clinics and households without electricity in sub-Saharan Africa, giving around 200 children the opportunity to study after dark and lighting up the future of 1000 lives.
You can find out more, and donate, at the link below.
CCF
On Wednesday June 11th, Air Commodore Brittain as well as Colonel Ackroyd and Lt Colonel Tebay arrived at noon to begin their inspection of the Winchester College Combined Cadet Force.
Joined by the Headmaster and Contingent Commander Maj Szwajkowski, the Inspecting Officer (IO) received a demonstration of the Field Gun event before then moving to the Armoury where Air Commodore Brittain was able to view our very own flight simulator, happily explained by a member of the RAF. Continuing with the RAF, the IO and guests were able to see our very own fleet of DJI drones in action!
Returning to the training on Meads & Lavender Meads, the IO was able to view a fantastic showcase of Close-Quarters Battle by the Royal Marines section. The Army section then gave another great demonstration of 'break-action', where an advancing cell of cadets safely retreated from enemy gun fire.
Finally, the day finished with a whole-section parade in-front of Musā, where the Air Commodore Brittain (IO) gave a speech to section, and praised Winchester's CCF's ability to teach the core values of the CCF.
We thank the IO and inspecting party for surrendering time to inspect the Winchester CCF, and we're very proud of the success of the inspection.
