I joined Chernocke House as Matron in 2016, having previously worked as a Matron at Repton School for 7 years. My own son went to boarding school at the age of 13, and it was such a comfort to know he was living in a homely atmosphere. I like to make sure that when boys first arrive they feel welcomed, and that they know I am here for them. Helping boys settle into good rhythms and routines in the House allows them to go out and flourish in the wider school.

I speak to every boy several times a day, and take an interest in what he is doing outside of the House. I enjoy getting out to watch the boys play sport, perform in concerts and plays, taking them to socials and other House trips. Knowing what boys are doing helps me to take good care of them. Keeping parents updated as to their child’s health and welfare is an important part of my role, especially in the early years.

I am a keen supporter of the school’s Natural History Society, and particularly enjoy conservation work. During the school holidays I volunteer for the National Trust back home in Derbyshire.
