The Governing Body, known as The Warden and Fellows, consists of the Warden, who is the Chairman of the Governing Body, and up to fourteen Fellows. Each member of the Governing Body plays an active role in school life, attending lessons and meeting with pupils and staff. They also provide guidance and support to the Headmaster, Bursar and senior team who are responsible for the day-to-day management of the College.

The full Governing Body meets each term and, in addition, each member sits on one or more of seven termly committees (the Academic and Pastoral Committee; Audit and Risk Committee; Development Committee; Finance Committee; Investment Committee; Nominations Committee, and Works Committee).

The Governing Body is responsible for the school’s Policies.

Sir Richard Stagg KCMG

Warden

Sir Richard is a former pupil and former parent. He is Director of the JP Morgan Asian Investment Trust; and a Trustee of the Turquoise Mountain Foundation, of SOAS and of the Chevening Estate. Until 2015, Sir Richard was a British Diplomat. His last two postings were High Commissioner to India and Ambassador to Afghanistan. 

David Goodhew MA, FRSA

Born in west London, David attended a local comprehensive school and was the first member of his family to do A levels or go to university. He graduated from Oxford with a First in Classics. David has been Head of Latymer Upper School since 2012. In September 2023 he will take on a new role as Managing Director of Dukes Education. He is committed to advancing social mobility through independent school bursary programmes, in conjunction with their partnership and outreach work.   

Andrew Sykes MA

Sub-Warden

A former pupil, Andrew is the Senior Independent Director of Intermediate Capital Group plc, and serves on the investment committee of Nuffield College, Oxford. He was formerly Chairman of Smith & Williamson and of Fauna & Flora International.

Alison Mayne MA, PGCE

A former parent, Alison has been involved in education for over twenty years, with experience in both teaching and governance, largely in co-educational state schools. Most recently, she was Chair of the Board of Governors at the Perins Multi-Academy Trust in Alresford, where she had oversight responsibility for safeguarding, child protection and welfare. Prior to her involvement in the education sector, Alison was an investment banker, and has held various charity trustee roles over the years. Alison is the Governing Body's safeguarding lead.

Bill Holland BA, FCA

A former pupil, Bill is a non-executive Director at CLS Holdings plc, a FTSE 250 property company, and at Ground Rents Income Fund plc, where he chairs the audit committee. Prior to taking on these roles, he had a 32 year career at KPMG, 19 years as a partner, specialising in the real estate sector. Bill is also president of the Old Wykehamist Cricket Club.

Brian Li Man-Bun JP, MA (Cantab), MBA, FCA

A former pupil, Brian is the Co-Chief Executive of The Bank of East Asia, Limited and serves on the board of several listed companies in Hong Kong. Brian sits on the school's Audit and Risk Committee.

Professor Helen Higson MA PhD OBE DL

Helen has worked in higher education for almost forty years. She is currently Professor of Higher Education, Learning and Management in Aston Business School and interim Head of the Mathematics in the College of Engineering. Helen serves on a number of boards, including Ravensbourne University, London; the Society for Research in Higher Education; the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals; the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, and Navitas UK Holdings Ltd. Helen was awarded an OBE in 2011 for services to Higher Education, and in 2020 was appointed Vice Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands. Helen spent the first 25 years of her life living at Winchester College as her father was a don. She studied English Literature at Newnham College and her PhD was awarded by Birkbeck College, London.

Laura Sanderson MA, MPhil

Laura Sanderson is a Managing Director of Russell Reynolds Associates, the international executive search firm. Laura specialises in advising on the appointment of chairs, chief executives and non-executive directors to the boards of large companies, both publicly listed and privately owned. She has particular interest and expertise in a range of topics related to leadership: effective governance, individual performance and development, and remuneration structures. Laura graduated and subsequently achieved her second degree in medieval and renaissance literature at the University of Cambridge. She was a Senior Scholar of Trinity College, and was also awarded a scholarship by the Modern Humanities and Research Association.  

Dr Magnus Ryan MA, PhD

Magnus is a former pupil and a Senior Lecturer in the History Faculty at Cambridge University. His principal research interests are the history of medieval law and political ideas.

Miles Young MA (Oxon)

Miles was appointed as Warden of New College, Oxford in September 2016. He was Chairman and CEO of Ogilvy and Mather, a leading global communications network and spent much of his career in China and North America.

Roland Turnill MA

Mr Turnill joined Slaughter and May in 1996, became a Partner in 2004 and has been Head of its Mergers and Acquisitions practice since 2016. He advises a range of FTSE100 and FTSE250 companies as well as a number of major international enterprises. Areas of expertise include mergers and acquisitions, activism defence and equity capital markets. He is an Old Wykenhemist and holds a BA in Jurisprudence from Brasenose College, Oxford.

The Hon Sir Stephen Cobb

Stephen is a former pupil and a Justice of the High Court. He sits in the Family Division, the Family Court, the Court of Protection and the Administrative Court of the Queen’s Bench Division. He has also acted as Chairman of the Family Law Bar Association (FLBA).

Dr William Poole MA, DPhil, FSA

William is a Tutor in English at New College, Oxford, where he is also Senior Tutor and Fellow Librarian. He is an expert in early modern literary, intellectual, and scientific history, and has interests in both early modern and modern education.
