Admissions
The admission of boys to Winchester at age thirteen is largely in the hands of Housemasters. When a boy is eight years old his name can be registered for entry into the School as a prospective member of a particular boarding House.

A Winchester education is unique. Our pupils enjoy good teaching and our teachers enjoy the liveliness of bright pupils. Success in examinations is one consequence of this, but we think it more important to encourage boys to love learning.

Bramston's is one of the four boarding houses in the Commoner Block of 6.5 acres purchased in the 1860s by Headmaster Ridding (1867-1884), known as the School's Second Founder. It sits on St Michael's Road and adjoins Sergeant's.
Founded by The Revd John Trant Bramston, the first Housemaster (1869-1908), it is formally known as Bramston's but informally known as Trant's, after its founder. It accommodates 60 boys in a house that boasts its own squash court and large recreation room with both snooker and pool tables.
John Cullerne has been Housemaster of Trant's since September 2008. He was previously Head of Physics. He is married to Kay and they have two young children.
