Head of Economics.  

Winchester College seeks to appoint a well-qualified, dedicated and inspiring Head of Economics.

The successful candidate, who will teach CIE Pre-U Economics in the sixth form, will be enthusiastic about promoting this popular subject and developing the department. The subject enjoys an excellent academic record: in Summer 2016, 27 Pre-U Economics candidates obtained Distinctions. Each year pupils from Winchester go on to study PPE, Economics and related subjects at Oxbridge and other top universities.

The College, which was founded in 1382, is a boys' boarding school of 700 pupils. We are committed to the highest standards of academic excellence, first class pastoral care and the maintenance of a broad and balanced liberal education for all our pupils. Through our non-examined general cultural studies programme (known as Division) we offer an approach to education which develops an intelligent and critical awareness of the world, strong communication skills and a confident ability to think independently and with originality. In addition to teaching Economics, applicants may be required to teach Division.

All our full-time teachers are expected to act as tutors in one of the eleven boarding houses, thereby making a significant contribution to the pastoral care of our pupils. Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard) - Full-time

Winchester College has a vacancy in the team at the PE Centre for a Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard). The successful candidate will need to be flexible as regards working hours, reliable and a committed team-player. They will be involved in all key aspects of operational services across all areas of the PE Centre, including the Fitness Room, Sports Hall, Pool and Reception. A National Pool Lifeguard qualification and a Level 2 Fitness Certificate are essential; however, training will be provided if necessary.

This permanent post will be worked over a seven-day shift pattern, working 40 hours, with a requirement for at least one weekend per month.

Head Chef

The College currently has a term-time-only Boarding House Head Chef vacancy. The successful applicant, who will be responsible for preparing meals from fresh ingredients for about 60 covers, will have a sound understanding of nutrition and kitchen hygiene. Qualified to NVQ3 (or equivalent), he/she should have experience in menu-planning, stock-control and budgeting, and should be happy to work as part of a team.

This role is term-time only, working 40 hours per week including evenings and weekends.

Receptionist/Administrator

The Wykeham Sports Club is based at Winchester College Sports Centre. We are currently seeking a part-time Receptionist/Administrator to work on the front desk.

Strong computer skills are essential for this role, along with good customer-service skills, the ability to work calmly when under pressure and an approachable manner when dealing with our customers/members. Duties will include dealing with membership and hirer enquiries, making bookings, answering the telephone, taking payments and greeting people at the desk.

The role is for 16.25 hours per week, 7:30am - 14:30pm on Monday, Wednesday and alternate Saturdays. The pattern of work is across a two-week period to give alternate Saturdays off.

Relief Matron 

Winchester College has a vacancy for a responsible person to work as Relief Matron in a boarding house. The post will be tenable during term-time only, and involves working with boys aged 13-18 during one duty per week. The post will involve covering ‘surgeries' and meals, and will include one night on call when the post holder will be required to sleep overnight in the boarding house. No formal nursing or medical training is required and meals will be provided whilst on duty. All Relief Matrons are required to undertake a one day first aid course. Relief Matrons are encouraged to attend House events and to become involved in the life of the boys in the House. Flexible working hours will be required on occasion.

Exams Invigilators

Winchester College has 8 - 10 vacancies for reliable people to work as Exams Invigilators for 6 weeks in May and June 2017. An understanding of the exam process would be advantageous. Hours of work will typically be Monday to Friday between 1.00pm and 5.00 pm. Payment will be on a casual hourly basis.

The successful candidates will have the confidence to enforce all examination regulations, and will be able to work with time constraints in the exam hall, to deal with confidential information, and to maintain security of exam materials at all times. Training will be provided.

Domestics (Weekend and Evenings)

Winchester College has vacancies for reliable people to work as Domestics (weekend and evenings) in several Boarding Houses, carrying out general cleaning duties and assisting in the Dining Room serving meals. The ideal candidates must be self-motivated and able to work both on their own and as part of a team, and should display a high level of integrity and attention to detail. These roles are term-time only, working various shifts, from weekends 9.00am to 2.00pm to evenings (Monday to Sunday) 5.00pm to 7.00pm.
