The Works Department has a full-time vacancy for a Roofer to carry out repair and maintenance roofing including tiling, slating, and some lead work.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a diverse and well-respected team of tradespeople carrying out work both in normal domestic situations and in Grade-listed properties. The essential criteria for this post are sound technical knowledge and ability, self-motivation, excellent people skills and the stamina to work in all weathers.

Domestic/Dining Room Assistant

Chef

Winchester College seeks to appoint a Chef to work in a boarding house during term time, preparing meals from fresh ingredients for about 60-65 covers. The successful applicant will have a sound understanding of nutrition and kitchen hygiene. Qualified/experienced to at least NVQ2 (or equivalent), he/she should have experience in menu planning, stock-control and budgeting and, importantly, be prepared to work as part of a team.

Lead Carpenter

Winchester College requires a Lead Carpenter as a supervisor for a team of approximately 7 carpenters. The Lead Carpenter will implement and initiate work activities for his team, passed on from the Works Manager, General Foreman or Services Manager. It is expected, although this may vary, that 10-15% of working time will be spent office-based, and the remainder as a working carpenter.

The successful applicant will be an experienced Carpenter, able to demonstrate woodworking skills in a wide variety of ways, to work without supervision, and to manage staff with good communications, programming and motivational skills.

Hours of work Monday - Friday: 8.00am - 5.00pm.

Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard) - Full-time

Winchester College has a vacancy in the team at the PE Centre for a Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard). The successful candidate will need to be flexible as regards working hours, reliable and a committed team-player. They will be involved in all key aspects of operational services across all areas of the PE Centre, including the Fitness Room, Sports Hall, Pool and Reception. A National Pool Lifeguard qualification and a Level 2 Fitness Certificate are essential.

This permanent post will involve working for 40 hours per week over a seven-day shift pattern, with a requirement for alternate weekend work.

Catering Assistant/Waiting Staff (College Hall Steward)

(term-time only position)

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Catering Assistant in our College catering team. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated team player, who can deliver outstanding customer service.

The College catering team are responsible for looking after the day-to-day catering requirements of College Hall, the medieval dining hall in which the scholars, the Master in College and his guests take all their meals in term-time. College Hall is also used for entertaining, both for formal College events and, in the College holidays, those booked through the commercial letting department of the College.

The College maintains high standards of quality and presentation at all times, and it is important that the Catering Assistant is of smart personal appearance. Ideally, the successful applicant will have had experience in the catering/hospitality industry, but this is not essential, as training will be provided.

Owing to the nature of the historical buildings throughout the College, the postholder will be expected to be able to meet the reasonable physical demands of the post.

This is a term time only position, 25 - 30 hours per week. Weekend and evening work will routinely be expected.
