Boys are welcome to use the facilities which Art School can offer for their own projects be they privately or academically motivated. There is always at least one member of staff present to help.

There are a number of competitions to which boys who do not necessarily study art formally, are welcome to enter and these are listed below.

Drew Travel Award

This award aims to provide financial assistance to Winchester College boys in V1th Book, especially V1th Book 2, who wish to visit areas of cultural importance in Europe during the summer holidays.

It normally involves two Wykehamists travelling together with the intention of painting, sketching or undertaking photography to record their visit. On return, the students provide a written account and present an exhibition of their work in the Angelus Gallery, Art School.

The Trustees are keen not only to support those studying Art or Art History but to give other enthusiasts an opportunity to develop such interests.

Drew Jug Competition

This annual inter house Art Competition involves all the boys and Housemasters in the preparation of a creative visual statement. A professional artist is invited to adjudicate and the much coveted Silver Jug is used by the winning house when dining.

The artwork is often site specific and is installed in the house following the end of the exhibition at Christmas.

The Drew opportunities are created by the former pupils of Graham Drew, Director of Art School 1958-1980.
