Spiritual Life

Winchester College has been a Christian foundation for over six centuries. The school’s spiritual life is deeply rooted in weekly chapel attendance, and the Anglican choral tradition continues to be a central part of life here.

Faith and Pastoral Care

Alongside our established Anglican worship, Winchester embraces a tapestry of religious diversity.

All pupils attend a weekly chapel service before school and also attend a Sunday observance, according to their different faiths and beliefs.

Catholic pupils are supported by a dedicated chaplain and attend Mass on Sundays and holy days at St Michael’s Church.

The school’s popular Faith Circles programme offers pupils opportunities to explore a broad range of religious traditions, welcoming ministers from a range of world faiths to speak at Winchester, either in person or virtually.

All pupils, regardless of their faith background, have access to the Chaplaincy team. The chaplains, who also serve as members of the teaching staff, bring with them a breadth of backgrounds and experiences, and are always available to any pupil seeking guidance or conversation. In keeping with the ethos of Winchester, they do not impose their own beliefs, but listen with care, engage thoughtfully, and encourage reflection.

At Winchester, we believe that spiritual exploration is an essential part of a young person’s development. Our aim is to equip Wykehamists not only with personal insight but also with the knowledge and empathy to engage meaningfully with the many religious traditions that shape both modern Britain and our global community.
