Every member of staff plays a role in pastoral care, with many also serving as house tutors. Support begins from day one, ensuring a smooth transition into school life and addressing any concerns early.
Each pupil’s wellbeing is overseen by their Housemaster or Housemistress, who develops a deep, personal understanding of each pupil, from their academic progress, mental and physical health, and participation in extra-curricular activities.
They are supported by a dedicated house team including tutors from diverse academic backgrounds, a matron, and a paediatric nurse, who work together to provide daily care and guidance, helping every pupil to make the most of every opportunity Winchester has to offer.
The Health and Wellbeing Centre is fully staffed and open 24/7 during term time.
Our team of paediatric nurses and doctors offers round-the-clock advice, support, and care – from routine health concerns to specialist services including asthma, allergy, and orthopaedic care.
Mental health and wellbeing are a priority, and pupils can also access a wide range of external support services through the school.

Located on College Street, our Learning Centre provides tailored one-to-one support for pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs.
Any pupil can request support sessions, whether they’re looking to overcome a specific challenge or aiming for academic excellence – including preparation for Oxbridge and other top universities.
The department also conducts assessments for specific learning difficulties and advises on appropriate access arrangements for exams.
Additionally, it offers regular study skills sessions for pupils across different year groups.
