US Soccer Tour

Sport

Over the summer break, 16 Wykehamists travelled to Philadelphia, USA for a soccer tour.

During the tour they took part in the StreetSoccer USA tournament, which saw both the U16 & U19 teams make it to the finals, where they faced off against all-star select teams.

The U16, depleted due to injury and illness, put up valiant effort, but lost 4-2. The U19 put on their best performance of the weekend, winning their game 4-2 & claiming the trophy.

Outside of the tournament, the team played multiple matches against other schools in Philadelphia and New Jersey, including a game against Germantown Friends School. They also took in the sights, visiting Independence Hall Museum, the World Trade Centre and 9/11 Memorial, and even ran the step to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, made famous by the film, Rocky!

A Long Walk for a Bath

Charities

Over the summer, Freddie (C, VIBk2), embarked on the Grande Traversée des Alpes, a month long hike across the French Alps from lake Geneva to Nice, on foot, with a tent.

He did so to raise funds to help fight against Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a condition that causes debilitating and overwhelming fatigue that isn’t alleviated by rest.

After walking 600kms over 24 days, dealing with 30km elevation gain, Freddie reached Menton on the French Riviera, and raised nearly 4000€.

Well done Freddie!

Wykehamist Earns Fellowship Diploma from Trinity College

Music

Congratulations are in order for Laurie (H, VIBk2), who recently earned his piano Fellowship Diploma from Trinity College London.

The diploma is only available to those who have worked through grades 1-8 on their chosen instrument. Two weeks after his GCSEs, Laurie sat a 50-minute exam that put his skills to the test, ultimately resulting in being approved.

The diploma is equivalent in standard to a postgraduate course recital at a conservatoire or university, and indicates a professional standard of performance and musical understanding.

Congratulations, Laurie!
