All candidates must take Winchester Entrance papers in Maths, English, Science, History and Geography. The Maths and English papers are common to both Winchester Entrance and Election.
Where a candidate has studied Latin and/or French, they must also undertake that exam. If a candidate has not studied French, they can request a short conversation with a Winchester College teacher in German or Spanish. Candidates may also choose to sit the Greek paper.
Candidates from UK state schools and schools overseas should take the full range of papers, but be reassured that the prime requirements are Maths and English.
We have reformed the Winchester Entrance exam to be more accessible to pupils from different academic backgrounds. However, the exam remains challenging, with some of the questions designed to be particularly stretching.
The syllabuses below set out what could be covered in each subject. These should be cross-referenced with the KS3 and Common Entrance syllabuses.
