We know that seeing the school is an important part of knowing whether Winchester is right for you. Come and visit us at one of our Open Events held throughout the year.
2
Please complete the registration form by 1st October in Year 11. If you have missed the deadline, we would still like to hear from you. Please get in touch or use the Registrar’s Route.
Please indicate on the form if you are interested in an Academic Scholarship (Founder’s Scholarship), a Music Award, or Sport Award.
If you are interested in applying for financial support, please tick the box on the registration form and we will get in touch with you.
3
We use a combination of school references, school reports, a personal statement, curriculum vitae, and General Ability Testing (GAT) to understand whether you will thrive in our school.
Those shortlisted will then be invited for interviews and further assessment.
4
Interviews are in person in November of Year 11. You will also complete an extended piece of writing and a humanities and/or STEM paper depending on your three A-Level subject preferences.
You will participate in two interviews. One with a member of the Pastoral Care team and one with a member of the academic staff.
5
Decisions, including scholarships, awards and/or bursary provision will be released in December of Year 11.
6
You will be invited to an induction day in June where you will meet your Housemaster or Housemistress, Matron, and pupils in your house. Activities on the day are designed to help you get to know the environment, the staff and our approach to learning.
Your place at Winchester will be confirmed in August on receipt of a copy of the statement of results for your GCSEs or equivalent qualification.
Your place will be conditional on a Grade 7 or above in all subjects, a Grade 8 or above in proposed A-Level subjects and a Grade 9 for extension subjects (e.g. Further Maths).
Founder’s Scholarships are available to new pupils joining the Sixth Form and are awarded purely on academic merit and are not means-tested. Recipients benefit from a 25% remission of school fees.
Sixth Form Music and Sports Awards are available to those candidates who demonstrate outstanding ability, potential, and commitment in their chosen fields.
