Short Half 2018

Winchester College

Ramsey Society Lecture

Professor Alex Bryson from UCL came and talked enthusiastically to Ramsey Society about the role of a labour economist and how they go about their research. He covered a whole range of labour market areas, such as the national minimum wage, the gender pay gap and the new, exciting branch of personnel economics. He explained how he and his team go about researching links between job satisfaction, job related anxiety and positive or negative outcomes for businesses. He pointed out the limitations of the findings of research and how it is important for government to consider the constraints of the research before basing policy decisions on its findings. It was very interesting to hear about how the experts do their work and the collaborative studies between economists, social scientists and even biologists. An enjoyable evening for all involved.
