A mock trial
In March 2009, a mock trial was staged at School. It was organised by the respective Law Course teachers at Peter Symonds and Winchester. Winchester provided the prosecution team, Peter Symonds the defence and they appeared before a barrister. Volunteers from Peter Symonds and Winchester acted as Jury. It is believed that the prosecution won the day, narrowly. Here are some photographs of the event.

The Master-in-College set a challenge to the School dons as detailed in the preceding words to the document displayed in the attached PDF. Alas, the champagne is for internal i.e in-house, consumption only.
The Church of St John the Baptist, Winchester
In 2003 the Friends of Winchester College produced a leaflet on this, the oldest church in Winchester and the place where the first Scholars worshipped until the completion of the School chapel in 1395.
December 2008 - The Bursar climbs Kilimanjaro
Mr Jeff Hynam, the Bursar, climbed to the summit of Kilimanjaro in December 2008. Here is his account: Midnight! Already high above us are tiny flickering lines of head torches - groups who started their ascent early. Nine hours later we reach the summit - Uhuru Peak - at 19,350 feet the highest point on the African continent. We are all in a state of hypoxic but euphoric exhaustion.
Every year some 30,000 aspiring hikers attempt to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro, many of them raising money for worthwhile charities.
This time I was supporting Get Kids Going - a charity that provides mobility aids to enable disabled children to participate in sport, a charity that had close links with the Beijing Paralympics in 2008.
Charity walks often throw together complete strangers from all walks of life. As the oldest on the trip I was honoured with the endearing title of ‘Babu' - granddad in Swahili!
Kilimanjaro is a mountain I've wanted to climb for some time. It's a great feeling to have achieved this and I raised over £4,900 for charity. Here are some photos of the achievement.
