Judo, translated as the "gentle way", is a martial art that teaches the efficient use of balance, leverage, and movement in the performance of throws, grapples and a number of other skills. Along with the obvious physical and fitness benefits judo also develops self-discipline, respect and self-confidence.

The judoka (judo players) at Winchester get to practice several times a week in our fully sprung dojo and work through their belts under the instruction of Mark Fricker, a highly accomplished and experienced international judoka. Whilst there are the occasional friendly matches against the likes of Harrow boys also get the opportunity for to compete in the National Independent Schools' Championships, where in 2016 we won 3 golds, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals as well as the coveted ‘Spirit of Judo' Award.
