Admissions
Admissions
The admission of boys to Winchester at age thirteen is largely in the hands of Housemasters. When a boy is eight years old his name can be registered for entry into the School as a prospective member of a particular boarding House.

Education
Education
A Winchester education is unique. Our pupils enjoy good teaching and our teachers enjoy the liveliness of bright pupils. Success in examinations is one consequence of this, but we think it more important to encourage boys to love learning.

Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care
Everything we do at Winchester is an aspect of our pastoral care of the boys; classes, sports teams, clubs and societies. We are a fully resident community and we think of ourselves as a network of friends.

Hockey
Hockey is a sport that requires speed, stamina, co-ordination and spatial awareness; it appeals to any athletic and competitive boy. In recent years, the numbers of boys playing the game has grown steadily. On Mondays, we make use of the various astro-turf tennis courts to do smaller skills sessions. We use the excellent University of Winchester all weather pitch every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon for training sessions and matches. The pitch is a 10 minute walk from the centre of the college. At present, we have regular fixtures for the 1stXI, the U15's and U14's teams. Occasionally, there are fixtures for the U16's team. Many boys arrive having played hockey at prep school or for local clubs. We welcome players of all abilities and look to give each boy the opportunity to develop their skills in the game. It is a popular sport at university level and many continue to play with local clubs later in life.
