CAMBRIDGE PRE-U RESULTS

For the first time, Winchester prepared boys for examination in the Cambridge Pre-U for the summer examinations of 2010. Pre-U courses were taken in all subjects except Biology (Salters-Nuffield A-level), Ancient History and Design & Technology. University offers received in the UCAS application process earlier in the year showed that universities had a good understanding of the relative difficulty of the Pre-U. The College is very pleased both with the experience of preparation and with the results. The course delivered the challenge and depth for which we had hoped. The general profile of the results has discerned the ablest candidates from the less able. Nearly a fifth of the Winchester candidature secured a D1 grade, which is rated above the new A* grade at A-level. A third achieved a D2 grade, the equivalent of the A*. In total, over three quarters of the Winchester candidature achieved the equivalent of an A grade at A-level. The bottom 20% of the candidature has been more clearly distinguished from the top than has been the case with A-levels over recent years.
